Enrollment FAQS

  • Think of us as public school's cool cousin who shows up to family dinners with wild stories about project-based learning and outdoor adventures. We're tuition-free like traditional public schools, but we've got the freedom to teach kids how to change the world instead of only memorizing state capitals.

  • Zero.
    Zilch.
    Nada.

We're a public charter school, which means your tax dollars are already hard at work funding your child's education in outdoor adventures, artistic expression, and math. The only thing you might pay for is the occasional "my kid went to Ecuador and all I got was this t-shirt" souvenir.

  • We welcome students from every corner of the Golden State: kids who climb on rocks, kids who read lots of books, future rocket scientists, aspiring influencers, Broadway bound artists and everyone in between.

Children and families from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds are welcomed into our close-knit community. Diversity isn't just our policy – it's what makes our community magical.

The only requirement? A California address.

    1. Visit www.aveson.org/admissions.

    2. Choose the school (ASL or AGLA) you wish to enroll in.

    3. Fill out the form.

    4. Sign your name and hit SUBMIT (Confirm you are not a robot. You aren’t a robot, right?).

    5. A member of our team will follow up with you shortly regarding space!

That’s it! Practically easier than assembling IKEA furniture and no essays about why your 5-year-old deserves a spot – we already know they're amazing.

  • We hold the lottery for our TK-12 classes in February. It's like Vegas, but instead of winning money, you win the chance for your kid to learn about meditation and traverse the globe. And our odds are much better than Vegas.

  • Absolutely! Did you move to California for the sunshine but stayed for the avocados? Or maybe your kid just informed you in October that their current school "doesn't spark joy"? We get it.

If we have space, we'll welcome your student with open arms any time of year. Contact ASL at (626) 797-1440 or AGLA at (626) 797-1438 and we'll help you navigate the transition smoother than a kindergartener on a freshly waxed slide.

  • No! Our students are free to express themselves however they please - whether that means pink hair on Monday or a dino onesie on Tuesday, we invite students to show up to school as their authentic selves.

That said, we do have some basic guidelines (shoes required, shirts required, pants... also required). More information can be found in our student handbook.

  • Someone led you astray, because while we’ve never said no to more glitter, tuition-free at Aveson Schools also means school supply-free! All school supplies will be provided - really, don’t bring anything!

  • Yes! We offer a robust dual enrollment program with Pasadena City College. Enrolled 9th-12th graders can take tuition-free courses that earn college credit and high school credit at the same time – free, convenient and supported. We wrote a blog all about it.

  • Small class sizes and caring teachers create just the right environment for each child to be truly known. We honor student voice and choice which encourages students to engage with material in ways that work best for them. Small group lessons, flexible pacing that matches individual learning needs, and multiple learning modalities ensure every student can master concepts. Our transformative model helps students build confidence in their skills while getting the targeted support they need to thrive.

  • During Rites of Passage trips, middle and high school students visit places like the Navajo Nation, Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands, and Camp Fox on Catalina Island. The destinations change each year, but the purpose stays the same: to gain perspectives, deepen our understanding of the world, and build the traits of a good leader.

Participation in Rites of Passage trips is not mandatory, but it is low-key awesome. There are plenty of opportunities to raise funds so every student can attend.

  • We offer FREE healthy breakfast and lunch options daily, and yes, vegetables are involved. While we can't provide the autobiography of every carrot, we can assure you that our meals meet and exceed all state nutritional standards. Want to know more? We have a blog all about our meal program and why kids and parents alike adore meal time at Aveson.

  • It’s always on our website and we’ll give you a copy when you enroll.

  • We've been recognized for our innovative approach to education, our arts programs that would make Broadway jealous, our exceptional teachers and our uncanny ability to turn curious kids into confident leaders. Check out our incredible rankings on Niche to read more.

  • Parents can help out in numerous ways! From joining the PTO to helping with fundraisers to chaperoning field trips and school events, there is something to fit anyone's schedule. Families are essential to our awesome community.

  • Please refer to our handbook for the full and up-to-date policy.

  • First, congratulations on raising the next Einstein/Mozart/Beyoncé! Color us impressed.

At Aveson, we believe every child is gifted in their own way and our job is to help everyone achieve their potential. Our project-based approach means your little genius can dive as deep as they want into topics that fascinate them. Multi-age classrooms, individualized learning, and high-quality teachers ensure that whether your child is headed to Harvard or building epic blanket forts on their way to an engineering degree, they'll be challenged and engaged at Aveson.

  • Sure, if by "artsy" you mean kids who like art AND science AND math AND building robots AND studying bugs AND playing sports AND exploring the world AND... you get the idea.

Yes, we have an incredible arts program, but we also have students who are way more interested in dissecting owl pellets than painting portraits. Our STEM kids build electric cars. Our history buffs recreate ancient civilizations. Our future CEOs run actual businesses. Some kids do interpretive dance about photosynthesis (it's surprisingly moving), while others calculate the trajectory needed to launch water rockets.

The beauty of Aveson is that your math whiz might discover they also love theater, and your painter might fall head-over-heels for marine biology. We're not just for "artsy" kids – we're for curious kids who want to discover all the things they might be amazing at. That’s why Aveson is a school of possibilities!
