Our small classrooms foster collaboration, mentorship, and deep connections between students and advisors (that’s what we call our teachers!) that provide the perfect environment for children to flourish. At ASL, our teaching approach is all about putting students at the center of their learning. Instead of just memorizing facts, students explore big questions, work on hands-on projects, and reflect on what matters to them. They’re not just learning what, but also why and how. Our staff takes the time to truly see each student’s—their needs, identities, and aspirations—and our advisors work closely with them to design learning experiences that support their academic growth, passions, and goals.

ASL students receive an education rich in transformative Project-Based Learning and Social-Emotional Learning exploration that prepares them with essential skills like critical thinking, collaboration and communication that align with 21st century skills. 

Holistic 

Learning at Aveson is about much more than test scores (though we crush those). We see each of our students as a whole, vibrant human being with extraordinary potential; deserving of a nurturing whole-child approach to growing. 

Our holistic program develops the whole-child: heart, mind and body. We believe that Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) isn’t just an add-on—it’s a core ingredient in how we grow as learners and leaders. By nurturing self-awareness, empathy, and strong relationships, SEL helps our students show up fully in their academic lives, ready to collaborate, take risks, and persevere through challenges. Simply put: when hearts are supported, minds can soar.

Art classes, musical theater and collaborations with organizations like Arts Bridging the Gap bring programs like mural painting, hydroponics, and theater workshops into the curriculum. Outdoor experiences strengthen bodies and an appreciation for our natural world, and our commitment to the Aveson Way means that each child is encouraged to grow into their best self through practices like advisory classes and mindfulness classes. Every student is welcomed as their true selves to our safe, inclusive school setting. 

Experiential

Experiential field trips are at the heart of our ethos at Aveson School of Leaders—they bring learning to life in ways a textbook never could. Yearly adventures at every grade level connect directly to what students are exploring in the classroom, deepening academic understanding while building community, independence, and a strong sense of self.

And the journey doesn’t stop in elementary school—our 6th-12th grade students venture far and wide, from the Galápagos Islands to Peru, the Navajo Nation to Italy, engaging with the world as curious, compassionate global citizens. Learning at ASL doesn’t just go deep—it goes everywhere.
