Boldly Follow Your Passions 〰️

Our graduates share their next adventures, whether it be college, career, or exploration. They also share how Aveson prepared them for their next journey.

Aveson Global Leadership Academy (AGLA) empowers our 6th – 12th-grade students with local and global experiential learning, a leading arts program, and our rigorous project approach in preparation for college and life.

Top US Charter School for the Arts

Creativity is at the heart of AGLA. Each semester, students choose from more than 30 elective courses including gardening, stand-up comedy, drama, film analysis, sports, creative writing, robotics, journalism, visual arts, and global leadership. AGLA students develop new skills, uncover hidden interests and meet college requirements.

Beyond the classroom, extracurriculars like musical theater productions and student-led interest clubs bring artistic passions to life. Whether painting, performing, or learning the art of graffiti, students explore their talents in a supportive, democratic community that celebrates self-expression.

Rigorous Academic Program that is College Ready

A transformative academic experience for 6th-12th grade students blends core subjects—English, math, science, history, and physical education—with personalized learning tailored to each student’s interests. Through small class sizes and a dedicated advisory system, our advisors guide students to connect classroom learning to real-world events, sparking critical thinking and independence. Middle school students thrive with a structured rotation of classes, while high schoolers meet UC and CSU A-G requirements, ensuring everything is tidy when it comes time to apply for colleges.

We take college admissions seriously - and we help students build the most eye-catching resume that stands out to college admissions counselors. Our unique Campus Road Trips take juniors on overnight visits to California colleges and universities, led by college staff and Aveson alumni. Our small size ensures that students have time to discuss their future with an advisor and make plans to navigate the college admissions process equipped with knowledge to make the best decisions. With a 90% graduation rate, AGLA graduates are confident, lifelong learners and leaders who are ready to tackle the challenge of college and career.

Experiential Learning and Leadership

Taking students out into the world to explore beyond the four walls of a classroom is a pillar of the Aveson model. During Rites of Passage trips, middle and high school students visit places like the Navajo Nation, Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands, and Camp Fox on Catalina Island. The destinations change each year, but the purpose stays the same: to gain perspectives, deepen our understanding of the world, and build the traits of a good leader as they explore the world and the people in it.

Weekly electives encourage students to explore their passions and discover new interests.

Extracurriculars at AGLA include volleyball, soccer, basketball, and flag football for middle school students plus debate for high schoolers and drama productions, student ambassadors, and interest clubs for all students. Students are encouraged to suggest extracurricular activity ideas and AGLA will explore the possibility to support them. For example, AGLA was home to an active mountain biking team driven by student interest and parent support.

Every AGLA student has the opportunity to participate in a Friday Externship. From early childhood education and bicycle shop management to exploring the electric car world, our students are encouraged to “try-on” a career, discover a new passion and learn alongside experts in the profession. Students report increased confidence, agency, connection and joy in being exposed to an endless number of possible career paths.
