Aveson Flex 6-12th Grade
Aveson Flex Program | Independent Study for Middle & High School Students at Aveson Schools
The AISA Flex Program is Aveson Schools' independent study option for middle and high school students (6th-12th grade). Designed for learners who thrive with flexibility and self-direction, the program delivers a rigorous, project-based academic experience supported by expert on-campus advisors and a structured weekly rhythm.
Whether your scholar needs a non-traditional schedule, benefits from personalized pacing, or is ready to take real ownership of their learning, AISA Flex provides the framework — and the freedom — to make that happen.
How the Program Works
AISA Flex combines on-campus collaboration days with flexible independent study time. Students attend campus on Mondays and Thursdays for project-based learning sessions, with an optional enrichment day on Wednesdays. The remaining days follow a flexible, self-directed schedule that students build and manage themselves.
Monday: Project Roll Out
Every week begins with a Check In session. On Mondays, scholars connect with their on-campus advisors to identify which projects for each course will be spotlighted for the week or month ahead.
Each subject-area advisor designs projects in Google Classroom, where instructions, materials, and feedback all live in one place. Students engage in project curation — actively shaping their learning experience and taking ownership of how they demonstrate mastery.
Wednesday: Electives (Optional)
Wednesday is an optional enrichment day featuring elective courses, including:
Visual Arts
Chess
Drumming
Board Games
Comedy / Improv
Thursday: Project Close Out
Thursdays are dedicated to wrapping up, refining, and presenting work. Scholars participate in multiple feedback cycles — including peer review — that lead to meaningful revisions and a final product or presentation.
Advisors assess project components against a designated rubric, and students measure their own work against those criteria, building critical self-evaluation skills alongside academic content.
Self-Directed Compliance
Independent study programs require strong documentation practices, and AISA Flex builds those habits directly into the student experience. Scholars are responsible for maintaining accurate records of their learning activity, which are submitted regularly and reviewed by advisors. This process teaches accountability, transparency, and the organizational skills students carry well beyond middle and high school.
Is AISA Flex Right for Your Scholar?
AISA Flex is a strong fit for middle and high school students who are ready to take an active role in shaping their education, who benefit from flexible scheduling, and who have the support of an engaged home educator. The program pairs student independence with consistent advisor oversight — giving families the flexibility they need without sacrificing academic rigor.
