a day-in-the-life:
a fifth grader's day
By Ella
I wake up in the morning and get dressed right away. Brush my teeth, brush my hair, and put my shoes on. Then I put some cereal in a bowl and have breakfast. I grab my backpack and I’m out the door. My mom drops my brother and I at the k-2 pick up/drop off and I go straight down to advisory. My advisor is Ms. Hanks. She’s also my projects teacher.
In advisory we sing science songs and play cooperative games. After advisory is done I go straight to math. My math teacher is Ms. Marcy. Every other Monday we go down to culinary arts to cook something. Our culinary arts teacher is Mr. B. We are learning fractions and decimals. When math is over it is recess.
After recess is over I go right to literacy. Last trimester we did a cook around the world kind of thing. One time we made rice balls from Japan, and boreg from Turkey. In literacy we are doing our centers, reading, mountain language, Study Island, and word study. My teacher in literacy is Ms. Carey. Next, I go to lunch recess, then lunch.
My last class is projects. We are doing test prep and science songs. Sometimes we have P.E. with Mr. Eric. Lastly, afternoon advisory. This is usually when we do our cooperative games. Sometimes on Wednesdays we go up to our garden and plant, compost, and harvest. Like today for example, we turned the soil, composted the old weeds and dead plants, and we planted new things. After advisory is over I either go to the 3-5 pick up line or the k-2 pick up line and that’s my day.
