(Aveson international school for the arts -Pending)

Aveson has established a plan for a new ARTS sister school which would be located in the Pasadena/Altadena area which would provide families with more public school choice.

However, we are sad to announce that our amazing school has been denied a charter by the PUSD for the upcoming school year. We are planning to appeal to the state of California and have our charter approved for a 2011-2012 opening. Check back for the latest news:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dear Prospective AISA families,

With a 6-1 vote, the the Pasadena Unified School Board denied our Aveson International School for the Arts (AISA) charter for the 2010-11 school year. AISA will not be opening in Fall 2010 so there will be no public lottery for AISA on March 6, 2010. If your family did not apply for our current Aveson schools and you are interested in attending, please submit your application immediately. We have extended the deadline to accommodate families who were counting on the new AISA school being an option for their children.

It is a gross understatement to say I am disheartened by the PUSD board decision to deny a charter built on the success of our two current charter schools. With 400 applications for the AISA school, it is clear an Aveson school with a focus on arts education is highly desirable..

I am enormously proud of our community. I remain overwhelmed with positive emotion when I recall the 140 adults and students who came to the board meeting to support Aveson International School for the Arts. Our current families, who already have Aveson as a choice for their children, and our prospective families fought for the same wonderful choice to be extended to the students who have submitted "Intent to Enroll" forms for the new school. I love this community. We will not become victims of the political decisions being made to the detriment of students. In regards to next steps for the new charter -this is merely the beginning. The denial has invigorated our community spirit and commitment to offer Aveson and other charter school choices in Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre. We are currently deciding whether to appeal the PUSD decision or resubmit our charter to PUSD. Please stay tuned for news about our next immediate action step.

Thank you again for all you do to support alternative educational choices in Pasadena. We are changing the world by providing the environment for children who excel in a small personalized educational model. The demand for this type of school far exceeds the opportunities currently provided. We can all be proud to be part of the school choice movement!

Regards,

The Aveson Team
